What is a Service?
A service is an act that one entity performs for another that is essentially intangible and does not result in the ownership of anything. It may or may not be tied to a physical product.
Increasingly, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers are providing value-added services, or simple excellent customer service to differentiate themselves.
Services are everywhere:
- Business Service: Offered by companies, like consulting or IT support.
- Government Service: Provided by agencies for public needs, such as healthcare or education.
- Web Service: Facilitating data exchange in IT.
- Community Service: Voluntary work for societal benefit.
- Customer Service: Assisting customers in business transactions.
- Military Service: Time spent serving in the armed forces.
- Public Service: Professions dedicated to the public good.
- Maintenance and Repair Service: Ensuring proper functioning of machinery or equipment.
